Why I Built Software for Microgreen Farmers

For years I’ve been involved in growing microgreens.

Like most growers, when I start something new my focus is entirely on the growing side of the process — lighting, trays, nutrients, airflow, and figuring out how to produce beautiful, consistent crops.

And honestly, that part was fun.

Experimenting with new techniques, improving yields, dialing in grow cycles… that’s what most of us enjoy about microgreens.

But after a while something interesting happened.

I realized something most growers eventually discover:

Growing the microgreens is actually the easy part.

The hard part is running the business.

The Real Challenge of Running a Microgreens Business

Once you start selling regularly, things get complicated quickly.

Suddenly you need to manage:

  • Customer orders
  • Weekly deliveries
  • Invoices
  • Revenue tracking
  • Crop forecasting
  • Profitability

At first I handled everything the way most growers do — with spreadsheets.

Spreadsheets work for a while, but eventually they become messy, hard to maintain, and easy to break.

I had different sheets for:

  • customers
  • orders
  • tray forecasting
  • invoices
  • revenue tracking

Every week I was bouncing between tabs trying to keep everything organized.

It worked…

But it wasn’t efficient.

And it definitely wasn’t enjoyable.

The Problem I Kept Running Into

The biggest issue wasn’t organization.

It was visibility.

Questions kept coming up like:

  • How many trays do I actually need next week?
  • Which customers generate the most revenue?
  • What’s my real monthly profit?
  • Who still owes me money?

Answering those questions required digging through spreadsheets and doing manual calculations.

As the business grew, it became clear that spreadsheets were not designed for running a microgreens business.

They were just a workaround.

So I Built the Tool I Always Wanted

I’ve spent many years working in software development.

Eventually I decided to build the tool I always wished existed when I started growing.

Something designed specifically for microgreen farmers.

Not generic business software.

Not complicated accounting tools.

Just a simple system focused on the real workflow of running a microgreens operation.

That project eventually became Microgreens Master.

What Microgreens Master Does

Microgreens Master helps growers manage the business side of their operation.

Instead of juggling spreadsheets, everything lives in one place.

Forecast Production

Plan upcoming tray requirements so you know exactly what needs to be grown each week.

Manage Customers & Orders

Track restaurant orders, recurring customers, and delivery schedules.

Generate Invoices

Create and track invoices without needing separate accounting software.

Understand Your Business

View revenue, profit trends, and top customers so you can see how your farm is performing.

Built by a Grower, for Growers

The biggest difference between Microgreens Master and generic business tools is simple:

It was built from real experience growing and selling microgreens.

Every feature exists because it solves a real problem growers run into.

Not because a software team guessed what farmers might want.

If You’re Growing Microgreens, This Might Help

If you’re currently managing your microgreens business with spreadsheets, notebooks, or a mix of tools, Microgreens Master may make your workflow much easier.

Instead of juggling systems, you can manage your forecasting, customers, orders, invoices, and analytics in one place.
